Jakarta — The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for DKI Jakarta recorded that Jakarta’s year-on-year inflation reached 4.91 per cent in February 2026 compared with the same month in 2025, attributable to electricity tariff increases.

“The high inflation in February was caused by a low-base effect, where in March and April 2025, following the end of the electricity tariff discount, inflation reached fairly high levels in those months, resulting in the annual inflation figure for February 2026 being recorded as fairly high,” said Jakarta’s BPS Head Kadarmanto in Jakarta on Monday.

He further noted that electricity tariffs, the main commodity contributing to annual inflation, accounted for 2.89 percentage points, followed by jewellery gold at 0.99 percentage points, broiler chicken at 0.24 percentage points, shallots at 0.07 percentage points, and junior secondary school fees at 0.05 percentage points.

By expenditure grouping, February 2026’s annual inflation was dominated by the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel category, contributing 2.93 percentage points.

On a monthly basis, Kadarmanto continued, Jakarta recorded inflation of 0.63 per cent in February 2026 compared with January 2026, lower than the national figure of 0.68 per cent.

The main contributor to monthly inflation in February 2026 was jewellery gold, which experienced inflation of 9.61 per cent, contributing 0.21 percentage points to Jakarta’s inflation. Broiler chicken also contributed to monthly inflation with 0.13 percentage points, followed by red chillies at 0.05 percentage points, shallots at 0.03 percentage points, and spinach at 0.03 percentage points.
