Jakarta Anniversary Peak to Be Held at Bundaran HI, Pramono Urges Restraint

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is continuing its series of events to commemorate the city’s 499th anniversary at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout. Governor Pramono Anung stated that the peak of the celebrations will be held on 27 and 28 June, including activities in the Bundaran HI area, which will be one of the main focal points. “The series of Jakarta’s anniversary events, which began on the 21st and 22nd, will continue with an event at Bundaran HI on the 27th and another on 28 June,” Pramono said at DKI Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (23/6).

Nevertheless, Pramono emphasised that the capital’s anniversary celebrations must remain modest and proportional. He believes the public needs to feel a sense of joy, but without excessive euphoria. He considers the current global geopolitical conditions, which remain fraught with uncertainty, to be an important consideration in organising various celebratory activities. “Essentially, my message is to create public joy but not to excess. Because for me, in the current geopolitical situation, joy is important but should not be excessive,” he said.

Since last weekend, the DKI Provincial Government has held various activities to welcome Jakarta’s 499th anniversary. These included the inauguration of the HR Rasuna Said road area revitalisation and the ‘Jaga Jakarta Pilah Sampah’ (Guard Jakarta, Sort Waste) readiness rally. Additionally, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction of a pedestrian deck, or ‘doughnut ring bridge’, in the Dukuh Atas area, which is projected to become a transport integration node and a new public space in the city centre.

Previously, on 22 June, the Provincial Government held a ceremony and plenary meeting for Jakarta’s anniversary, while also inaugurating the connecting bridge between Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) and Ancol, and activating the JIS KRL Station as part of strengthening mass transport connectivity in Jakarta. This series of activities is part of the DKI Provincial Government’s efforts to mark Jakarta’s journey towards its 500th year while reinforcing the city’s transformation as an economic centre and a global city.
