Jakarta and West Java Record Highest Number of Violence Complaints in 2026

The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) has reported on the trend of complaints during the first semester of 2026. As of 30 June 2026, DKI Jakarta and West Java were recorded as the regions with the highest number of reports in Indonesia.

Komnas Perempuan Chairperson Maria Ulfah Anshor revealed that the total number of complaints received reached 1,833 cases. On average, the institution receives around 10 complaints each day.

“Data as of 30 June 2026 shows that the most complaints originated from DKI Jakarta with 561 cases, followed by West Java with 457 cases,” said Maria Ulfah Anshor during a hearing with Commission XIII in Jakarta on Thursday (16/7).

Besides these two provinces, several other regions on Java Island also recorded significant complaint figures. Maria added that access to reporting is now easier thanks to the availability of various channels, including Bitly, email, WhatsApp, telephone, social media, and direct mail or visits. “Digital channels dominate reporting,” she added.

Of the total 1,833 reports received, not all cases could be processed further. Komnas Perempuan noted that 1,279 cases were successfully advanced to the next stage, while 554 other cases had to be discontinued. Some reasons for discontinuing reports included incomplete chronologies of events, victims unwilling to proceed or withdrawing their reports, and communication barriers when victims could not be contacted again. Of the cases that were continued, 641 reports have received official follow-up.

Based on gender-based violence analysis, the personal domain remained the area with the highest number of cases. Regarding state domain cases, Maria highlighted that these involved state officials as perpetrators, with the majority of incidents taking place in state institution offices.
