Jakarta Administration Considers Expanding Free Public Transport Beneficiary Groups

The Jakarta Provincial Government is considering adding more groups to the list of beneficiaries eligible for free public transport. Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that the potential expansion is linked to the planned fare adjustments for Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek services. “If there is a price adjustment, certain groups will certainly be affected. We are currently calculating which groups might be given additional exemptions beyond the 15 we have already decided upon,” Pramono said in Central Jakarta on Thursday. He noted that discussions with the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) regarding the fare increase are now in their final stages. Pramono previously stated that the Jakarta administration and the DPRD would recalculate the subsidy amounts for Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek before finalising the new fares. “The Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) report has been submitted to us. We are studying it. In the coming weeks, we will recalculate,” he said. He emphasised that deciding on the fare increase is a priority. “To decide on the Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek fare increases, we must carefully consider the subsidy calculations,” Pramono explained. He assured that he and Deputy Governor Rano Karno would carefully consider the fare amounts for the public good. Pramono also urged that the 15 existing free-ride categories for Transjakarta users continue to be promoted so that the public can benefit from them.
