Jakarta Administration Considers Expanding Free Public Transport Beneficiary Groups

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is considering adding to the groups or categories of beneficiaries eligible for free public transport in Jakarta.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said the addition would be made in line with the planned fare increase for Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek.

“If there is to be a price adjustment later, then there will certainly be groups affected. We are currently calculating which groups we might add beyond the 15 already decided upon,” said Pramono in Central Jakarta on Thursday.

He noted that the provincial government is currently discussing the planned fare increase with the DKI Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), and that the discussion has entered its final stage.

Previously, Pramono said the provincial government and the DPRD DKI would recalculate the subsidies for Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek fares before determining the final fares for the two public transport services.

“The DTKJ report has already reached us. We are studying it. In the coming weeks, we will immediately recalculate,” said Pramono.

According to him, the planned fare increase is a priority matter to be decided soon.

“Because deciding on the Transjakarta fare increase and everything else, including Transjabodetabek, certainly means we must look at how the subsidies should be calculated,” said Pramono.

Nevertheless, he assured that together with DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno, he would consider the fare levels as carefully as possible for the good of the public.

Pramono also asked that the 15 groups eligible for free Transjakarta travel continue to be promoted so that people can feel the benefits.
