Jakarta Administration Confirms It Will Seek Compensation for Tendean Footbridge Rammed by Truck

The Jakarta Provincial Government has confirmed it will demand compensation for the damage to the Tendean pedestrian bridge (JPO), which was hit by a truck some time ago. The case is currently still under investigation by the police.

“That has already been handled by the police. Until now, it is still under police investigation,” said Head of the Jakarta Highways Department Heru Suwondo at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (21/7/2026).

Although the legal process is ongoing, Heru stressed that the provincial government will submit a request for compensation for the damage to the bridge. “What is clear is that we, the provincial government, state that there is a request for compensation. That is roughly it,” he said.

Heru also confirmed that the Tendean footbridge will be rebuilt. The provincial government is currently seeking a financing scheme to realise the construction. “What is clear is that the JPO will be rebuilt. Financing will be sought. Hopefully, there will be news about the construction in the near future,” he said.

According to Heru, the budget required to rebuild the bridge is estimated to be between Rp 5 billion and Rp 6 billion. However, this figure is still an initial estimate and will be calculated in more detail. “Yes, it is around Rp 5 to 6 billion,” he said.

Heru said the source of financing for the bridge construction is still being sought from outside the regional budget (APBD). One option being considered is a scheme using funds from floor area ratio (KLB) contributions. “The financing is being sought from outside. Maybe from KLB, maybe,” he added.

While waiting for the reconstruction of the bridge, the Jakarta administration is also preparing temporary measures at the site to ensure the public can cross safely. “We are communicating with the Transportation Agency to build a pelican crossing,” Heru said.

He added that Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has requested that the construction be realised as soon as possible. However, the process still depends on securing the source of financing. “The Governor has asked for it to be done immediately. But we do not have the financing yet, we are still looking for the funds,” he concluded.
