Jakarta Activities Return to Normal, Pramono Hopes Tomorrow's CFD Proceeds

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that public activity in Jakarta has returned to normal following mass protests at several points in the Senayan and Pejompongan areas. Pramono expressed hope that tomorrow’s car free day (CFD) will proceed smoothly.

“That is why traffic returned to normal yesterday. And today activity is also normal. And tomorrow I hope the car free day will also take place normally,” Pramono said in the Menteng area of Central Jakarta on Saturday (29/8/2026).

Pramono said the Jakarta Provincial Government, together with relevant agencies, immediately carried out cleaning and handling of public facilities affected by the mass protests. The move was taken so that residents’ activities would not be disrupted.

“Since last night, I, the Regional Police Chief, the Regional Military Commander, and all relevant stakeholders, including the mayors, immediately carried out cleaning,” he said.

Pramono previously stated that a number of public facilities had suffered damage as a result of the mass protests, including CCTV cameras and bus shelters. Pramono ordered that the public facilities be repaired immediately.

“I have ordered that repairs be carried out immediately because I do not want anyone to be disrupted,” he said.

A number of public facilities are known to have been damaged as a result of rioting that occurred after the mass protests. The police are still calculating the damaged public facilities.

“We are calculating the material and immaterial losses suffered by the public as well as public facilities that should still be usable and beneficial for the public interest. However, due to the rioting, the function of these public facilities has been disrupted,” said the Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, at a press conference at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on Friday (28/8).

Iman explained that there was one location where rioting occurred yesterday. Iman said the rioting occurred only in the Pejompongan area, Bendungan Hilir.

“The area where the rioting occurred last night was at one point in the area around Jalan Pejompongan, Bendungan Hilir,” he explained.
