Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that his administration is accelerating the Ciliwung River normalisation project to tackle flooding in Jakarta.

Pramono said the normalisation of the Ciliwung River in the Cawang segment covers the areas of Rawajati, Pangadegan, Cawang and Cililitan. He is targeting completion of the normalisation project by 2027, coinciding with Jakarta’s 500th anniversary.

He said work is currently still at the land acquisition stage, and it is being carried out without any intermediaries.

In Cawang subdistrict, two neighbourhood units (RT) will be affected by land acquisition, namely RT 15 and RT 02.

“Alhamdulillah, 62 buildings have been completed,” Pramono said during an inspection of land acquisition for the river normalisation in Cawang, East Jakarta, on Friday (10/7) last week, as quoted from the official information portal of the Jakarta Provincial Government.

As for the land and buildings still in the acquisition process, he said there are around 108 remaining, with completion targeted by the end of 2026.

“Of the target plots here, 170 in total, alhamdulillah 62 buildings are done. But by the end of this year they will be completed up to the existing target,” Pramono said.

“Hopefully it will be resolved because we have also signed the location determination (penlok). And this continues the normalisation programme that had long been stalled,” he continued.

Through this normalisation project, Pramono hopes the Ciliwung River will be able to accommodate water discharge during periods of heavy rainfall, so that flooding caused by river overflow does not recur in the area.

Normalisation of Krukut and Cakung Lama Rivers

In addition to the Ciliwung River, this medium-to-long-term project will also be carried out on the Krukut and Cakung Lama rivers.

“Hopefully, by 2029 all of it can be directly felt by the people of Jakarta,” he said.

Pramono also assured that there is no involvement of intermediaries in the land acquisition for the Ciliwung River normalisation.

To ensure this, the Jakarta Provincial Government, through its Water Resources Agency (Dinas SDA), in cooperation with the National Land Agency (BPN), has set up a complaint post in the area for the duration of the compensation process. According to him, this allows land acquisition in the area to proceed smoothly and calmly.

“So if residents, for instance, have incomplete paperwork — whereas previously there were brokers who helped — now they can come directly to this post and will be fully assisted by the BPN as well as by the Jakarta Provincial Government through the Water Resources Agency,” he explained.

The head of the Water Resources Agency (SDA), Ika Agustin Ningrum, reported that Rp300 billion has been prepared to fund land acquisition for the river normalisation projects on the Ciliwung, Krukut and Cakung Lama rivers. Meanwhile, location determinations have been issued for four subdistricts, while 10 other locations are still at the land procurement planning document stage.
