JAKARTA: About 1,000 accountants across the country will gather at the Horison Hotel from Sept. 25 to 27 to elect their new leaders and discuss the latest development in the accounting industry.

The ninth congress is expected to be opened by President Megawati Soekarnoputri, the Indonesian Accountants Association (IAI) said in a statement. The association holds its congress once every four years.

The first day of the congress will be marked with a seminar on tax tribunal, money laundering law and the implication of money laundering on accounting profession.

On the second day, the association members will meet to select their new leaders and modify the association's statute.

The congress will be closed on the third day with a seminar on accounting profession and its current challenges, featuring speakers such as Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dorodjatun Kuntjoro Djakti, former minister of finance Bambang Sudibyo, as well as, several corporate leaders and analysts. -- JP
