Jaecoo J5 Electric Car Tops Sales with 3,041 Units, Here's the Trigger
The battery electric vehicle (BEV) market in Indonesia showed growth in June 2026. Distribution of vehicles from factories to dealers increased compared to the previous month, with the Jaecoo J5 maintaining its position as the best-selling model in the domestic market.
According to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), wholesale sales of electric cars reached 12,653 units in June 2026. This figure rose significantly compared to May 2026, which recorded 9,290 units.
Cumulatively, electric car sales from January to June 2026 reached 69,739 units, contributing approximately 16 per cent to total national car sales in the first half of the year. This figure also confirms that the pure electric vehicle segment remains the largest contributor compared to other electrified vehicles. In June, sales of hybrid cars were recorded at 8,215 units, whilst plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) reached 2,402 units.
Amid rising demand, the Jaecoo J5 once again became the star of the market. The electric SUV recorded distribution of 3,041 units, up from 2,943 units in May. This achievement kept the Jaecoo J5 at the top of the list of best-selling electric cars in Indonesia.
Head of Marketing at Jaecoo Indonesia, Mohamad Ilham Pratama, said consumers view the J5 as an electric SUV, including its daily cost efficiency. The Jaecoo J5 EV is equipped with a 60.9 kWh battery with a range of up to 461 km (NEDC) and 200 mm ground clearance.
“As an illustration, if we drive an average distance of 50 km per day, the operational cost of the Jaecoo J5 EV for daily charging is only around Rp9,600, or an average of Rp290,000 per month,” Ilham told CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday (14/7/2026).
Competition is heating up after BYD once again placed its products in the top ranks. The BYD Atto 1 became the second best-selling model with distribution of 2,249 units. Overall, BYD distributed 3,439 electric cars in June across several models, including the Seal, Atto 3, Dolphin, M6, Sealion 7, E6, and Atto 1. Despite this achievement, it was not enough to displace the dominance of the Jaecoo J5, which remained superior as the single model with the highest sales.
Third place was occupied by the Geely EX2 with sales of 1,618 units. Combined with the EX5, which recorded 348 units, Geely booked distribution of nearly 2,000 units during June. The BYD M6 followed in fourth place with 827 units, whilst the Wuling Eksion EV was in fifth place after recording distribution of 539 units.
In the premium segment, the Denza D9 booked sales of 464 units, placing it above the MG S5, which recorded 449 units. The Geely EX5 filled the eighth position with 348 units. Meanwhile, VinFast placed two models in the top ten list. The VF3 sold 262 units and the VF5 reached 225 units.
