Jababeka's factory buildings sold out
JAKARTA (JP): In only three months PT Kawasan Industri
Jababeka (KIJ), the owner of Cikarang Industrial Estate (CIE),
has succeeded in selling 152 "Three in One" factory buildings,
which role a factory, an office and a house into one.
President Ismail Sofyan told a press conference yesterday that
the demand for "Three in One" buildings is strong as 36 of them
were sold at the Real Estate Expo '94.
According to Ismail, 150 companies, including United Tractor,
Unilever Indonesia, ICI Paints, Knorr Indonesia, Mattel
Indonesia, Samsung Metrodata Electronics and Union Carbide
Indonesia, have occupied 500 hectares of CIE's 790-hectares.
S. Djuandi Darmono, the managing director of the company, said
the company through its subsidiary PT Grahabuana Cikarang, has
developed 1,400 hectares near CIE into a residential estate named
Cikarang Baru.
He said that Grahabuana planned to expand Cikarang Baru's
existing area to 5,400 hectares to build a self-reliant satellite
city which provides not only housing but also employment
opportunities.
Darmono said the scheme supports a government regulation
requiring industrial estate companies to provide housing
facilities for workers.
The government regulation, released this month, was stipulated
in a joint decree of Coordinating Minister for Industry and Trade
Hartarto, Minister of Manpower Abdul Latief and Minister of
Industry Tunky Ariwibowo.
In Cikarang Baru, the company had built around 500 midsized
houses. About 2,500 similar houses are under construction.
Ismail projected that within ten years, the company will build
100,000 houses.
Darmono said the company is still waiting for a government
land expansion permit.
KIJ is owned by a number of businessmen, including
Sudwikatmono, Budi Brasali, Utomo Josodirdjo, Eka Tjandranegara,
Santoso Sutyanto, Arief. R. Kurniawan and Budiono Widodo.(03)
