J Trust Bank's Strategy Turns Banking Products into Tangible Environmental Action
Jakarta, VIVA – PT Bank JTrust Indonesia Tbk (J Trust Bank) has launched the TORA Green Savings and Blue Ocean Savings programmes to implement sustainable banking practices. The concept has been translated into concrete actions, ranging from mangrove rehabilitation to marine wildlife protection. J Trust Bank’s Managing Director, Ritsuo Fukadai, stated that throughout 2025, contributions from the green savings products were successfully collected as environmental donation funds. ‘From the TORA Green Savings programme, over Rp59 million was raised and directed towards supporting environmental restoration projects in Indonesia,’ Fukadai said in a statement on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. One of the main implementations was carried out in partnership with Carbon Ethics, through a mangrove planting project on Harapan Island in the Thousand Islands, valued at approximately Rp17.6 million. According to him, mangroves act as a natural barrier that helps reduce coastal erosion, protect shorelines from extreme waves, serve as crucial habitats for various marine species, and are known as one of the world’s most effective natural carbon absorbers. The programme includes three years of monitoring, complete with regular monitoring and evaluation reports, as well as an online dashboard that allows transparent tracking of the project’s progress and impact. ‘With this approach, each customer contribution does not end at the donation process but becomes part of an environmental recovery journey where the long-term benefits can be monitored,’ he said. Sustainability efforts do not stop at coastal areas. Through Blue Ocean Savings, the green movement expands into marine conservation and biodiversity protection. By the end of 2025, the programme had successfully raised over Rp73.6 million in donations from corporate contributions and customer participation through approximately 310 accounts across J Trust Bank branches. To expand its impact, the programme collaborates with several environmental organisations including Members of Nature, Sungai Watch, Divers Clean Action, Konservasi Indonesia, and Pandawara. One programme being prepared with Members of Nature is the adoption of baby turtles and the release of hatchlings into the sea, scheduled for 2026 in Bali or Kalimantan. The initiative is supported by a budget proposal of approximately Rp35.9 million, along with budget reporting, monitoring and evaluation, and impact reports.
