J&T records package volume increase of up to 65 percent
CEO of J&T Express Robin Lo said the company recorded package volume in the first half of 2026 increased by more than 50 percent, while on an annual basis (year-on-year/yoy) its growth reached around 65 percent.
Robin said that amid the surge in packages, the company relies on the use of technology to improve operational efficiency and reduce logistics costs amid the surge in package delivery volumes.
“J&T Express, from the beginning until now, has always emphasised technology to help our efficiency. So this efficiency can also help our customers. Improve our service so that the time we send to customers is faster and more efficient,” said Robin at the J&T 11th Anniversary Celebration event in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to Robin, during 11 years of operating in Indonesia, technology has become one of the keys for J&T Express to build a more efficient logistics system. Technology is not only used to speed up delivery, but also helps the company optimise the use of resources so that operational costs can be reduced.
One of the technologies used is an automatic sorting machine. If previously this technology was only applied in main warehouses, now its use has been expanded to smaller facilities or drop centres.
Currently, automatic sorting machines have been used in 15 drop centre facilities. According to Robin, the use of these machines can speed up the package sorting process by up to four times compared to manual processes.
In addition, J&T Express uses automatic scanners to speed up package scanning. This automation also helps reduce the risk of errors in the sorting and processing of packages.
The use of technology has also been expanded through AI and data analysis to predict delivery patterns and labour requirements based on package volume.
Robin gave an example: when data shows an increase in deliveries from Jakarta to Bali or Nusa Tenggara, the company can estimate the need for couriers in the destination area before the packages arrive.
“If there are too many deliveries and the couriers are inadequate, delivery will be disrupted. Conversely, if there are too many couriers while packages are few, operational costs will be very high and shipping prices cannot be cheap,” he said.
According to him, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analysis helps the company adjust the number of resources to delivery needs. Thus, package volume growth can be matched by increased productivity without automatically increasing operational costs.
This efficiency is considered increasingly important as electronic commerce (e-commerce) grows, requiring a logistics system with large capacity, fast service, and competitive shipping costs.
With delivery volumes continuing to increase, J&T Express considers investment in automation and data utilisation to be an important part of maintaining efficiency while strengthening national logistics capacity.
