PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) and Weda Bay Nickel (WBN) are promoting human resource development through a scholarship programme for students from North Maluku and other parts of Indonesia. IWIP External Relations Manager Lukman Hakim explained that the programme spans from undergraduate studies domestically to opportunities for pursuing master’s degrees abroad. “IWIP and WBN are working to expand access to education while cultivating outstanding young generations ready to contribute to national development,” Lukman said in a statement on Monday, 22 June 2026. Launched in 2021, the Weda Bay Scholarship Programme represents the company’s commitment to improving human resource quality through higher education access for the youth of North Maluku. “The programme targets students from Central Halmahera and East Halmahera regencies who are studying at various universities across Indonesia,” he stated. To date, at least 92 students have benefited from the Weda Bay Scholarship Programme. Lukman emphasised that education is a long-term investment that plays a role in preparing the younger generation to face future challenges. “Through the various educational programmes run by IWIP and WBN, we aim to provide broader opportunities for young people to obtain quality education, develop their potential, and prepare for a better future,” Lukman said. One scholarship recipient, Salsabilah Irwan, a student of the Agrotechnology Study Programme at the Faculty of Agriculture, Khairun University, said the assistance has greatly helped her in pursuing her studies. “This support has significantly eased the burden on my parents and allowed me to focus more on my studies. I hope more young people in Central and East Halmahera will be encouraged to continue their education and pursue their dreams,” she said. In addition to supporting undergraduate education, IWIP, through the Eternal Tsingshan Group in collaboration with the Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP), also supports a master’s degree programme at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) in China. This programme provides opportunities for young Indonesians to gain international academic experience while broadening their knowledge in science, technology, and industry.
