IULA-ASPAC meet in Jakarta
JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Governor Surjadi Soedirdja, in his capacity as president of the International Union of Local Authorities for the Asia-Pacific region (IULA-ASPAC), officially opened the union's executive committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Members agreed to further develop the activities of the union as well as to improve its human resources training program, designed to enhance cooperation among local administrations in the region, according to a statement released by the Jakarta Public Relations Department.
The statement said the training programs for human resources included those in Indonesia's Home Affairs' Education and Training office, INTAN in Kuala Lumpur, Northern Territory University in Darwin, the All India Institute for Local Government in Bombay, the Local Government Academy in Manila, the Center for Local Government Education and Research in Sydney and several others in Japan and South Korea.
To support the ever-pressing activities, the delegates urged the meeting to intensify the role of the IULA-ASPAC secretariat in Jakarta.
At the conclusion of the meeting the delegates unanimously elected Robert P. Silalahi as the new IULA-ASPAC secretary. (bas)
