ITTS Officially Joins WordPress Credits Programme
South Tangerang, VIVA – The South Tangerang Institute of Technology (ITTS) has achieved a significant milestone in the international higher education arena. ITTS is officially recorded as the first university in Southeast Asia to join the global WordPress Credits (WP Credits) programme.
This participation opens new corridors for higher education in Indonesia, where students do not merely study theory in classrooms but are directly integrated into the world-class WordPress open-source ecosystem, allowing them to build professional portfolios from an early stage.
WordPress Credits is an international initiative from the WordPress Foundation designed to bridge the gap between academia and the global digital ecosystem. Through this programme, tangible contributions made by students to various WordPress projects can be converted into academic credits and counted as professional experience equivalent to an industrial internship.
Connecting Academia with Real-World Global Projects
For ITTS, this strategic move is a concrete manifestation of transforming the technology education model to align with the fast-paced needs of modern industry. Students are no longer just consumers of technology; they are encouraged to solve real-world problems, produce work, and collaborate with communities and experts across borders.
The Rector of the South Tangerang Institute of Technology, Onno Widodo Purbo, emphasised that integrating the campus curriculum with global-scale open-source projects is the key to producing competitive digital talent.
“The involvement of ITTS students in the global WordPress ecosystem is not just about completing lecture hours, but proof that Indonesian youth are capable of making real contributions to the technology used by millions of websites worldwide,” said Onno in Serpong, as reported on Thursday, 17 September 2026.
He added that this empirical experience provides significant added value for the students’ futures. Through the WP Credits programme, the teaching and learning process is transformed into an arena for direct problem-solving, coding, and cross-cultural collaboration. This is considered a highly valuable international portfolio asset for their future professional careers.
Within the WordPress Credits programme, the space for student contribution is vast. According to Onno, students can flexibly choose and apply their expertise across various technical fields.
