ITS Nogogeni Team Prepares Two Energy-Efficient Cars for KMHE 2026
Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Nogogeni energy-efficient vehicle research team from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) is preparing two new cars to defend their championship title at the 2026 Energy Efficient Car Contest (KMHE).
The two vehicles, the Nogogeni XI EVO and Nogogeni IX, feature several updates to the propulsion system, vehicle weight, engine construction, and friction reduction to enhance efficiency. They were launched on the university campus on Wednesday.
“Both cars have been developed with different focuses according to the specific characteristics of each vehicle,” said the General Manager of the ITS Nogogenim Team, Hafiz Diandra Pratama.
“Both the Nogogeni XI EVO and Nogogeni IX that will compete offer striking advantages over previous generations, ranging from engine construction and drive systems to minimising friction in specific areas,” he added.
This engine design is intended to reduce vehicle energy losses and increase overall efficiency. According to Pratama, these developments were undertaken to improve vehicle efficiency while minimising energy dissipation during operation.
Hafiz stated that preparations for KMHE 2026 are ongoing through a series of tests and evaluations. The competition is scheduled to take place at the University of Jember in late September or early October 2026.
“We are ready to win again, following a successful series of trials that showed significant improvements in efficiency results compared to last year,” said Hafiz.
During the preparation process, the ITS Nogogeni Team has received support from various parties, including access to the Gelora Bung Tomo Circuit in Surabaya for vehicle testing. The supervisor of the ITS Nogogeni Team, Dedy Zulhidayat Noor, ST, MT, PhD, noted that this access helps students test and evaluate various technical aspects of the vehicles before the competition.
“Students can measure vehicle performance, modify gear ratios, and evaluate technical aspects before competing,” said the lecturer from the ITS Department of Industrial Mechanical Engineering.
Support for the development of the Nogogeni Team is also provided by ITS through the academic environment, as well as material and moral support for students participating in various competitions. The Director of Student Affairs at ITS, Nur Syahroni, ST, MT, PhD, stated that this support is provided to encourage students to develop their potential and maintain their achievements.
“This ensures that students are motivated to continue competing and maintaining their brilliant achievements year after year,” said the lecturer from the ITS Department of Ocean Engineering.
He added that ITS also provides career development support for high-achieving students through recommendations to various partner companies of the university. This support is expected to ensure that the students’ experience in competitions provides benefits for their future career development.
Following KMHE 2026, both Nogogeni cars are also projected to participate in international-level competitions, such as the Shell Eco-marathon (SEM).
