Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya has developed the Battery Management Sensor (BMSense), a smart battery based on quantum materials to support renewable energy storage.

“This battery was developed considering the needs for monitoring, energy efficiency, and storage system flexibility,” said the Head of the BMSense Research Team, Grasianto SPd MSc PhD, in Surabaya on Thursday.

BMSense integrates LiPo Graphene based on quantum materials with a Battery Management System (BMS), microcontrollers, and sensors to monitor battery conditions in real-time.

This technology is being developed for various energy storage needs, such as Solar Power Plants (PLTS), energy backup systems, and off-grid energy systems.

“This capability provides information regarding the battery’s condition, allowing the monitoring of energy storage systems to be conducted more precisely,” said the lecturer from the ITS Department of Chemistry.

According to him, the development of BMSense also considers the opportunities for implementing energy storage technology in Indonesia, alongside the increasing demand for solar power, the electrification of industrial and commercial sectors, and energy systems in remote areas.

The development of BMSense involves lecturers from the Departments of Chemistry and Instrumentation Engineering, students from the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering at ITS, as well as PT Jokeen Solusi Teknologi and Jokeen Energy as industrial partners.
