ITS and BTI Defence Extend Partnership to Support Maritime Technology
Surabaya (ANTARA) – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya has extended its partnership with BTI Defence to support the development of maritime technology by drawing on academic expertise and research.
“ITS hopes the collaboration with BTI Defence will continue to run well and create opportunities to apply academic expertise to meet the needs of the maritime industry,” ITS Rector Bambang Pramujati said in a statement in Surabaya on Tuesday.
BTI Defence Director Peter Tjahjono said ITS had strong capabilities in shipbuilding and marine studies. The experience of working together previously was also a reason for BTI Defence to continue the collaboration.
“We have not been disappointed by our previous cooperation; many ITS experts have been very helpful to us,” Peter said.
Indonesian Ambassador to the UAE Judha Nugraha said the partnership extension was significant for bilateral relations between the two countries. It coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the UAE.
“This collaboration is an important milestone as well as a gift towards strengthening relations between the two countries. We are also ready to facilitate more cooperation in the future,” he said.
ITS has also previously worked with Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation on the design and construction of a glass-bottom tourist boat, whose transparent hull is intended to support Indonesia’s super-priority tourism destinations.
In addition, ITS is developing Ocean Farm ITS (OFITS), a floating structure to support offshore tuna and snapper farming. These developments demonstrate how ITS’s academic and research expertise is being applied to support the needs of the maritime industry.
Through the extended partnership with BTI Defence, ITS hopes to broaden the use of its marine expertise and technology in developing Indonesia’s maritime industry.
