ITERA and ITB collaborate on five-year fast track bachelor's to master's programme

Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - The Sumatran Institute of Technology (ITERA) is collaborating with the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) through the Joint Bachelor-Master Pathway (JKSM), a fast track programme that enables high-achieving students to complete both undergraduate (S1) and postgraduate (S2) degrees in five years. ITERA Rector Prof. Elfahmi stated in Lampung Province on Monday that the JKSM programme represents a step towards improving the quality of educational services and strengthening academic collaboration between ITERA and ITB. “This year, ITERA is leveraging the partnership with ITB through the JKSM programme, an integration of undergraduate and postgraduate studies,” he said. He explained that through this programme, eligible ITERA students can gain the opportunity to continue their master’s education at ITB after completing their bachelor’s degree. “The programme is designed so that the S1 and S2 education period can be completed in an integrated manner within five years,” he said. “Students can begin monitoring and evaluating their academic achievements in the fifth and sixth semesters as part of the preparation for the programme’s selection process,” he added. He further stated that students who meet the qualifications can then apply at the beginning of the seventh semester. At this stage, students undertake preparatory master’s coursework at ITERA as a transition before formally entering the postgraduate programme. “Before officially continuing to the master’s level, students first complete their bachelor’s thesis defence and attend the graduation ceremony at ITERA,” he said. After completing their undergraduate studies, the students are then formally registered as master’s students under the JKSM programme. ITERA hopes this scheme will open more opportunities for outstanding students to pursue advanced education while enhancing the quality of human resources and the competitiveness of technology university graduates in Indonesia.
