Central Lombok (ANTARA) - InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is preparing prototype camping grounds and campervan experiences as alternative accommodation for spectators of the MotoGP Indonesia, which will be held at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara, from 9–13 October 2026.

“This innovation is a response to tourists who wish to attend the MotoGP event in Mandalika in a different way,” said ITDC Operations Director Troy Warokka in Central Lombok on Friday.

He noted that camping has become part of a modern lifestyle, as many high-income tourists are choosing camping holidays because they are perceived to be healthier and more affordable.

“We want to develop Mandalika in a different way. This is the answer for tourists who want to come and witness MotoGP Indonesia,” he said.

Troy, who is also the Chairman of MotoGP Mandalika 2026, stated that the camping ground concept is being prepared to address the accommodation needs of spectators, particularly two-wheeled vehicle users travelling from various regions across Indonesia.

“We are testing this with MotoGP, providing accommodation through camping grounds or camping,” he said.

He explained that the idea originated from communications with several parties capable of providing tents, while the necessary utilities and supporting facilities will be prepared by the management.

Over the last three months, his team has been assessing several potential locations. From the available options, coastal areas were ultimately selected due to their easy access, high visibility, and existing public facilities.

“We have selected quite a few locations. We chose the most accessible and visible site. In the last one or two weeks, we decided that this will take place along the Mandalika Beach coast,” he said.

In addition to serving as an overnight stay for MotoGP spectators, the camping ground is expected to act as a catalyst for the development of the coastal tourism area.

“One of our dreams is for this place to truly become a clean beach area with high tourist arrivals,” he said.

Furthermore, ticket sales for MotoGP Mandalika 2026 continue to show a positive trend. To date, ticket sales have reportedly reached approximately 50 per cent, including large-scale purchases from several corporations.

Support for the hosting of MotoGP Mandalika is also expanding with the involvement of various sponsors, travel agents, and airlines.

“Travel agents are already selling these packages. The public is increasingly aware that to watch MotoGP, they do not always have to book a hotel every day. Travel packages are becoming much easier to access,” he said.
