Nusa Dua, Bali — The state-owned enterprise PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Indonesia (ITDC), which manages Nusa Dua in Badung Regency, Bali, is strengthening its movement for coastal and marine conservation to support environmental sustainability.

“We have a continuous responsibility to promote sustainable destination management practices and support initiatives that have a positive impact on the environment and the community,” said ITDC General Manager I Made Agus Dwiatmika in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, on Saturday.

He explained that marine conservation efforts require cross-sector collaboration, including the tourism sector and its stakeholders, who grow and develop alongside the coastal environment.

ITDC is participating in the World Ocean Day and Coral Triangle Day celebrations, organised by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in conjunction with the Provincial Government of Bali, WWF Indonesia, Konservasi Indonesia, GIZ, and other relevant partners.

The peak of the agenda, held at Peninsula Island, Nusa Dua on Sunday (7/6), features conservation actions, environmental education, intergenerational dialogue, and public festivals involving the wider community.

Prior to the main event, a series of activities were carried out in Alor, Kupang, Wakatobi, Sumbawa, and various other regions across Indonesia, including beach clean-ups, mangrove planting, coastal education, and marine conservation campaigns aimed at maintaining the sustainability of national marine resources.

ITDC is also supporting marine conservation, biodiversity protection, plastic waste reduction, and the strengthening of the blue economy.

Agus expressed hope that the involvement of the government, environmental organisations, academics, communities, business actors, and the younger generation can strengthen the collective movement to safeguard the health of Indonesia’s oceans as one of the nation’s strategic assets.

“Protecting the ocean is not merely an environmental agenda, but an investment in the future of tourism, the economy, and future generations,” said Agus.
