ITB to charge campaign fees

BANDUNG: The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in West Java will charge an unspecified fee to political parties wishing to campaign on campus.

"The fee will be channeled toward the maintenance of auditoriums used for the campaigns," said ITB deputy rector for the student body, Adang Surachman.

Adang did not reveal how much the institute would charge parties.

He said campaigners would not be allowed to bring their followers or the public on campus, and that ITB would only allow a party representative to conduct the campaign.

Adang said the institute would allow its students the liberty to attend the campaigns.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Mustoffa, head of the ITB student union, said the student union rejected the idea of on-campus campaigns, as it rejected the 2004 general elections. -- Antara
