During Ramadan and coinciding with ITB’s 67th Dies Natalis, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) introduced the ITB Media Scholarship Programme 2026, packaged in a gathering and iftar with media titled ‘Dialogue, Appreciation, and Strengthening ITB–Media Partnerships’, at ITB’s Rectorate in Bandung on Tuesday 3 March. The event served as a space for ITB leadership and media professionals to deepen strategic collaboration.

A. Rikrik Kusmara, Vice-Rector for Communications, Partnerships, Alumni Affairs and Administration (WRKMAA) at ITB, stated that ITB needs to bolster its global reputation through ITB’s presence in digital media within national and international contexts. To enhance credible and consistent global communications capacity, ITB plans to launch ITB TV, which aims to become the official voice of experts to elevate visibility of expertise and to position ITB by presenting scientific views, scientific analyses and ITB’s responses to relevant and comprehensive issues.

‘This includes prospective analysis, predictions and foresight regarding dynamics and challenges in the future, in line with ITB’s expertise in the science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) fields,’ he explained.

Meanwhile, ITB Director of Communications and Public Relations, N. Nurlaela Arief, stated that the media is an important partner in building credible, accurate and impactful public communication. A university cannot stand alone in conveying research achievements, innovations, or social contributions to society without support from professional and integrity-driven media.

‘ITB–media collaboration is not merely a public relations relationship, but a partnership in building a knowledge ecosystem and shaping public perception of higher education, science and technology,’ he said.

A TIMELY MOMENT

According to Nurlaela, Ramadan is a timely moment to strengthen silaturahmi and reflect on the shared role in delivering information that enlightens the public. ITB will continue to expand the impact of the university’s tridharma (the threefold mandate of higher education) through strengthened collaboration with the media.

‘ITB also formally announces the ITB Media Scholarship Programme 2026. The programme is designed to enhance journalists’ capacity and competence, particularly in the fields of business and management, while also providing access to high-quality postgraduate education for media personnel,’ he explained.

The scholarship programme, Nurlaela added, not only offers study opportunities but also encourages recipients’ contributions in writing case studies, books and knowledge-based journalistic products. The programme is designed as a multidisciplinary effort to enhance journalists’ capacity and to build a collaboration between ITB and the media so that the university’s contributions to society, industry and government can be more widely known.

‘ITB provides three postgraduate scholarships for media. The ITB Media Scholarship Programme is open to journalists who meet the criteria, including a maximum age of 45, possessing good academic records, and willingness to complete studies within a maximum of 18 months under ITB’s academic standards. The selection process will include administrative steps, academic selection, followed by interviews and focused group discussions/FGD,’ he said.

SELECTION PROCESS

Nurlaela further said the selection process will commence from March to April 2026, following the first wave of ITB’s postgraduate admissions. For more information about the ITB Media Scholarship, please contact WhatsApp number +6287822822184.

In addition to discussions about scholarship schemes and collaboration, the event also included recognition for ITB’s partner media for their constructive and informative reporting. The event series concluded with a discussion and breaking of the fast, serving to strengthen networks and informal communication between campus leadership and media professionals. The breaking of the fast was also supported by ParagonCorp, BSI, and Garuda Food.
