ITB gets Bechtel grant

JAKARTA (JP): Bechtel, one of the world's leading engineering and construction companies, delivered a US$10,000 grant to the Technology Institute of Bandung (ITB) Saturday to upgrade the institute's research and student facilities.

The company said in a statement that the country manager of Bechtel Indonesia also signed a memorandum of understanding with ITB's rector Lilik Hendradjaya to promote the exchange of technology and knowledge between Bechtel and ITB.

Erskine also announced on the same occasion the establishment of the Bechtel Foundation to promote science, mathematics and engineering education in Indonesia. The foundation will provide grants for that purpose.

Bechtel, which has been active in Indonesia for 46 years, is involved in a number of projects, including the development of the liquefied natural gas plants in Arun, Aceh, and Badak, East Kalimantan. (jsk)
