Ita's death and terrorism
Ita's death and terrorism
From Republika
The statements made by the team of volunteers on mass rapes in
the May riots have created problems for themselves.
Until now the proof to support these accusations has not been
obtained. Studies by independent teams, including those from
abroad, have indicated a far smaller number -- if not zero -- of
cases than that stated by the team.
Meanwhile the community has become critical of the team's
statements. The "fake" data has had a direct impact abroad: it
has tarnished the nation in the international world, while its
validity is still debatable. Indirectly the criticisms and
negative reports have affected economic conditions, which were
already chaotic before. The suffering of the poor and hungry in
the community has worsened.
A joint fact-finding team will give its report at the end of
this month. Apparently this data is less horrifying than the
revelations of the team of volunteers. When the findings are
published, it will be a hard blow to the team of volunteers that
have loudly protested the mass rapes.
Apparently the team of volunteers, led by Father Sandyawan,
has come to realize this situation. Therefore, they are trying to
divert the community's attention from the real matter using the
murder of Ita (Marthadinata). The high school student, who once
assisted the team of volunteers, has became a political commodity
to describe the terror experienced by the team of volunteers.
Once again, the team led by Father Sandyawan has launched
unfounded accusations. They say they are being terrorized without
specifying who the perpetrators are and what form the terror
takes.
They may feel haunted by fear and terror, but the feeling does
not come from anybody but themselves, they who are afraid to
justify their statements. Moreover, some people like Furkon have
said they will sue them if the team's statements are not
substantiated by proof.
