Italy to Reopen Tehran Embassy on Friday Following Iran-US Peace Deal
Italy’s embassy in Tehran will reopen its doors on Friday after more than three months of closure due to the war in the Middle East, with diplomats set to resume their duties in the Iranian capital.
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told the Italian parliament on Wednesday that the embassy would reopen on Friday. Italy had temporarily shut the mission in early March and relocated its staff to neighbouring Azerbaijan for security reasons, following the outbreak of hostilities triggered by US and Israeli air strikes on Iran.
Tajani confirmed that the ambassador, along with all diplomats and foreign ministry officials, would return to Tehran. “In a complex region like the Middle East, caution is essential. However, for the first time, after weeks of war and stalled negotiations, a genuine glimmer of peace is emerging,” he said.
The move comes after Iran and the United States agreed this week on a framework deal to end the Middle East war, with the formal signing scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Friday.
