Italy provides $15m for hospital
MANADO, North Sulawesi: Italy has provided US$15 million in
medical equipment for the Malalayang Hospital, which was
dedicated by President Soeharto yesterday.
The modern equipment was supplied by Cofegar Impresit of the
FIAT group. It includes a CT scanner, cobalt therapy equipment, a
hyperbaric chamber, a radiological simulator, haemodyalisis
equipment and 18 operating theaters.
Italian officials said the equipment was "the most advanced"
Italy had ever provided to Indonesian hospitals.
Italian ambassador Mario Brando Pensa was among dignitaries
present at the inauguration ceremony.
The ambassador and North Sulawesi governor C.J. Rantung
discussed possible economic cooperation, notably in the tourism
industry. According to Pensa, 50,000 Italian tourists visit
Indonesia every year. (pan)
