Italy in full strength for wood fair
JAKARTA: Eighteen Italian companies producing woodworking machineries will take part in the Woodworking and Forestry Indonesia 2002 which opens in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Italian Trade Commission's office in Jakarta said the presence of such a large Italian delegation attests to these companies' confidence on Indonesia, both from the perspective of its economy and political stability.
The companies taking part are members of the Italian Woodworking Machinery and Tools Manufacturers' Association (ACIMALL), which will have its own pavilion at the April 10-13 trade fair at the Jakarta Kemayoran Exhibition Center.
They will be vying for a slice of Indonesia's imports for woodworking machinery which, according to official Indonesian statistics reached $102 million in 2000. Italy accounted for 7.5 percent of that imports, the trade commission office said.
Enthusiasm among Italian participants runs high although their number declined from the 20 that took part in the last fair in Jakarta in 2000.
Trade Commissioner Augusto di Giacinto and ACIMALL will host a reception at the Italian pavilion on Friday. -- JP
