Italian theater gets a showing
JAKARTA (JP): A troupe of Italian theater performers is set to bring the sights and sounds of Venice to the city over the weekend.
Koron Tle, exponents of Commedia D'ell Arte, will perform at Hotel Borobudur in Central Jakarta in a show opening its weeklong Venetian Food Festival on Saturday night, and in a workshop and performance Teater Utan Kayu on Tuesday.
Founded in the mid-16th century in Tuscany, the theater form has its origins in the masked comedies of ancient Rome. Forms of the art spread throughout Europe, with offshoots in France, Spain and England. Consisting of four principal players, the art combines mime, improvised and scripted dialog, as well as tumbling and acrobatics.
The evening at the Flores Room of Hotel Borobudur will also feature the culinary creations of three Venetian chefs and a fashion show by Indonesian designer Harry Darsono. (brc)
