Italian National Deported from Bali After Assault and Overstaying Visa by Three Years

The Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre has deported an Italian national, identified by the initials JF, 41, to Rome on Friday evening. The man was repatriated after completing legal proceedings for assaulting a local resident and being found guilty of overstaying his visa in Bali. The head of the Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre, Teguh Mentalyadi, revealed that the assault committed by JF was captured in a short video that went viral on social media in April 2026. The incident occurred on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, at around 8:00 a.m. local time in the Jalan Gunung Soputan area, Pemecutan Kelod village, Denpasar. The altercation began when the victim, a 29-year-old Indonesian man, woke up to the sound of his wife arguing with JF. The Italian national, who lived next door, was disturbed by the noise of the victim’s wife cooking. When the victim attempted to intervene, JF became enraged and slapped him on the left cheek. The victim subsequently reported the incident to the Denpasar Police. JF was processed and found legally and convincingly guilty of committing minor assault under Article 471, paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Criminal Code. Based on a Denpasar District Court ruling dated 17 April 2026, he was sentenced to three months of supervised probation. Due to his status as a foreign national who also committed a serious immigration violation, his probation was served at the Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre under the supervision of the Denpasar Class I Correctional Centre. ‘JF completed his three-month supervised sentence, which was overseen by the Denpasar Correctional Centre, on 17 July 2026, and we deported him in accordance with Article 75, paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 78, paragraph (3) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration,’ Teguh stated. In addition to the criminal act, JF’s immigration violation was classified as severe because he had overstayed his visa by 1,154 days, or approximately three years and one month. Besides being deported to Rome, JF’s name has been proposed for inclusion on a blacklist to prevent him from re-entering Indonesian territory. ‘Referring to Article 102 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration, a ban on a foreigner can be imposed for up to ten years, or even for life for those deemed to pose a serious threat to public security and order. The final decision on the duration of the ban will be determined by the Directorate General of Immigration after considering all aspects of the case,’ Teguh concluded.
