Isuzu's Karawang Plant Reaches 300,000 Unit Production Milestone
PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI) has recorded production of 300,000 vehicles at the Isuzu Karawang Plant (IKP) manufacturing facility in Karawang, West Java, over the decade since the plant began operating in 2015.
“The production milestone of 300,000 units at the Isuzu Karawang Plant is an important milestone in the journey of PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia. Since it began operating in 2015, this plant has grown into a globally benchmarked manufacturing facility that is a source of pride for Indonesia and an important part of Isuzu’s global production network,” said the President Director of PT IAMI, Masayasu Hideshima, in Karawang on Monday.
According to the company, the achievement reflects Isuzu’s journey in Indonesia as a commercial vehicle specialist as well as its contribution to national industrialisation through increasing local content levels (TKDN), tax contributions, support for various business sectors, and foreign exchange earnings through exports.
The Isuzu Karawang Plant currently manufactures Isuzu commercial vehicles, namely the Isuzu ELF, Isuzu GIGA, and the Isuzu Traga, which is the highest-volume production model. The facility also produces UD Trucks vehicles, namely the UD Quester and UD Kuzer, to meet domestic market needs.
The company recorded that the TKDN level of vehicles produced at the Isuzu Karawang Plant has reached 46.45 per cent for the Isuzu Traga, 33.04 per cent for the Isuzu ELF, and 38.07 per cent for the Isuzu GIGA.
The high TKDN has produced a multiplier effect in the form of employment for 884 workers and has encouraged technology transfer through the contribution of local vendors to meet the company’s global quality standards.
In addition to serving the domestic market, the Isuzu Karawang Plant has also served as a production hub for commercial vehicle exports since 2019. To date, vehicles produced at the plant have been exported to 25 countries, including Japan, South Africa, the Philippines, and Panama.
