Isuzu's Common Rail Technology, Claimed to Be More Fuel-Efficient
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - At present, all Isuzu vehicles are equipped with diesel engines featuring Common Rail technology. This technology is claimed to optimise fuel consumption by controlling fuel injection more precisely. Moreover, the engine is not only more fuel-efficient but also emits lower emissions. Rian Erlangga, Head of the Business Strategy Division at PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia, said Isuzu has introduced Common Rail technology in Indonesia for 15 years. ‘This technology has proven to increase fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions. It directly benefits customers’ businesses, and to date remains the choice of Isuzu Partners in various regions across Indonesia,’ he was quoted as saying from an official statement, Tuesday 19 May 2026. Next, fuel atomisation is supported by a solenoid valve (also known as a piezoelectric valve) which enables good electronic control over the timing and quantity of fuel injection. In the process, the engine’s electronic control unit injects a small amount of fuel just before the main injection event occurs. Thus, the timing of fuel injection becomes efficient, the amount of fuel injected is efficient, resulting in an economy of fuel consumption. Defined to Euro 4 standard limits. The efficiency of the Common Rail technology used by Isuzu has also been demonstrated through internal testing of the Isuzu ELF NLR L by simulating an on-road journey over 26 days with a daily distance of 450 km. The vehicle’s GVW total reached 5,400 kg and used bio-diesel fuel. In the test, the Isuzu ELF NLR L demonstrated fuel efficiency of 8.6 km per litre, or 34.4% more efficient than the competitor, with potential fuel savings of Rp3.1 million. ‘Through the use of a engine that has been equipped with Common Rail, the Isuzu ELF NLR L can deliver even more optimal fuel efficiency without compromising vehicle performance. The internal trial simulations showed an impact on operating costs, saving up to 25.6% per month,’ said Rian.
