Isuzu Targets Commercial Vehicle Market with New D-Max Launch

Tangerang, CNBC Indonesia - The outlook for the commercial vehicle market in Indonesia is showing signs of improvement, driven by increased activity in the mining, plantation, construction, and logistics sectors. Amid this trend, PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI) sees growth opportunities for the 4x4 pickup segment, which is essential for operational use. To capitalise on this potential, Isuzu introduced the latest Isuzu D-Max at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026. Chief Operating Officer of PT Astra International Tbk - Isuzu Sales Operation, Irwan Nawir, stated that the model is positioned not only as a business support vehicle but also targets consumers needing a versatile vehicle. “We present the Isuzu D-Max to give customers confidence in facing various challenges. This vehicle not only offers toughness but also delivers competitive performance, safety features, and comfort in its class, making it a reliable partner for supporting business productivity and exploration activities,” Irwan said at GIIAS 2026 on Wednesday (5/8/2026). Isuzu has equipped the D-Max with a 1,898 cc RZ4E diesel engine producing 150 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The manufacturer claims updates to the combustion chamber, variable geometry system (VGS) turbo, and air intake channels optimise performance while maintaining fuel efficiency. The vehicle’s ability to tackle various road conditions is supported by a four-wheel drive system using a rotary knob 4WD Transfer Control Switch. The driver can shift from 2H to 4H mode while driving below 100 kilometres per hour, while 4L mode is activated when the vehicle is stationary with the transmission in neutral. Specifically for the Rodeo variant, Isuzu has included a Rear Differential Lock and Rough Terrain Mode to help maintain traction on slippery roads or extreme terrain. The D-Max is also fitted with a steel skid plate, oil pan and transmission protection, and an underbody design engineered for safer passage over rocky paths. Refinements have also been made to the front suspension system through changes to the upper arm design and wheel geometry. These changes are claimed to improve vehicle stability during manoeuvres while reducing body roll, both on highways and in work areas. Irwan believes customers now require a vehicle capable of performing dual functions, serving as both an operational vehicle and a means of supporting personal activities. “We understand that customers need a vehicle that can perform multiple roles simultaneously. Therefore, we present the Isuzu D-Max with a balance of performance, toughness, efficiency, safety, and comfort,” he said.
