Karawang (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has stated that PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI) is the only manufacturer producing commercial vehicles in which every product has obtained a domestic content level (TKDN) certificate.

The statement was made during a ceremony marking the production of the 300,000th unit at the Isuzu Karawang Plant in Karawang, West Java, achieved within ten years of the factory beginning operations in 2015.

“PT IAMI is the only manufacturer producing commercial vehicles in which all of its products carry TKDN certification,” said Kris Sasono Ngudi Wibowo, Head of the Centre for Increasing the Use of Domestic Products at the Ministry of Industry, at the plant on Monday.

“As of today, Isuzu holds 33 TKDN certificates with a considerably high range — the highest combined TKDN plus BMP ratio stands above 62 per cent. This is an extraordinary achievement, and Isuzu is one of the pioneers of the automotive industry in fulfilling its commitment to increasing the use of domestic products,” he said.

According to Kris, the achievement reflects Isuzu’s commitment to strengthening the use of local components while supporting the consolidation of the national industrial structure through involvement in domestic supply chains.

“I am confident that when recalculated — and several TKDN certificates will likely need to be renewed next year — the figure will exceed 62,” he said.

The Ministry of Industry hopes that Isuzu’s success can serve as an inspiration for other automotive companies to continue raising local content and strengthening collaboration with national industry.

The Isuzu Karawang Plant currently manufactures Isuzu commercial vehicles, namely the Isuzu ELF, Isuzu GIGA, and the Isuzu Traga, which records the largest production volume. The facility also produces UD Trucks vehicles, namely the UD Quester and UD Kuzer, to meet domestic market demand.

Beyond serving the domestic market, the Isuzu Karawang Plant has also served as a production hub for commercial vehicle exports since 2019. To date, vehicles produced at the plant have been exported to 25 countries, including Japan, South Africa, the Philippines, and Panama.
