Istiqlal Mosque has commenced the ritual slaughter of sacrificial animals today. A total of 78 animals, including cows donated by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, will be processed.

Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque, Nasaruddin Umar, stated during the opening of the slaughter ceremony on Thursday, 23 June 2026: “The President’s cow weighs an impressive 1.3 tonnes, while the Vice President’s is 1.2 tonnes. Additionally, several individuals and institutions have also contributed.”

There are 65 cows and 13 goats being slaughtered, with approximately 10 tonnes of meat to be distributed. “This year’s distribution is expected to increase, with around 10,000 kilograms—approximately 11 tonnes—being shared with the wider community,” he added.

Nasaruddin also instructed that the blood from the slaughtered animals must not drip into the river surrounding Istiqlal. The sacrificial committee was urged to maintain strict standards.

“We have a river encircling Istiqlal, but I do not want a single drop of sacrificial blood flowing into it,” he said.

President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka have donated sacrificial cows to the mosque, named ‘Si Loreng’ and ‘Wirabumi’ respectively.

M Asdar, Director of Media at Istiqlal Mosque, confirmed: “The President’s cow is named ‘Si Loreng’, while the Vice President’s is ‘Wirabumi’.”

‘Si Loreng’, a Simental Cross breed, weighs 1.3 tonnes and has distinctive white hair on the top of its head. It is currently located in the mosque’s backyard.

Meanwhile, ‘Wirabumi’, the Vice President’s cow, has been positioned alongside ‘Si Loreng’ and will be slaughtered tomorrow.
