Istiqlal Mosque to Slaughter Sacrificial Animals Tomorrow, Meat Distributed to Musallas and Affiliated Orphanages
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Istiqlal Mosque will begin slaughtering sacrificial animals at the slaughterhouse on Thursday morning, 28 May 2026. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar stated that the mosque received 63 cows, 18 goats, and one sheep for this year’s Eid al-Adha. ‘Insha’Allah, we will begin slaughtering the goats and sheep tomorrow at Istiqlal. No distribution will take place here,’ he said on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. ‘We will distribute to Istiqlal-affiliated mosques and musallas, orphanages under Istiqlal’s patronage, majelis taklim supported by Istiqlal, Islamic universities, and pesantrens,’ Nasaruddin added. Additionally, Istiqlal Mosque received two sacrificial cows from President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. ‘We received the official handover of the cows from the President and Vice President last night. The President’s cow weighed 1.3 tonnes, while the Vice President’s was 1.2 tonnes,’ Nasaruddin said. He confirmed all sacrificial animals had been inspected by health teams and declared healthy. According to Nasaruddin, the sacrificial animals at Istiqlal Mosque also came from various institutions and companies.
