Istiqlal Mosque Receives 61 Sacrificial Cows for 2026 Eid al-Adha from Prabowo, Gibran and Megawati
JAKARTA - Masjid Istiqlal in Central Jakarta received 61 sacrificial cows for Eid al-Adha on Tuesday (26 May 2026), according to data as of midday.
Mas’ud Halimin, chairman of the Eid al-Adha Sacrificial Committee at Masjid Istiqlal, said: “We currently have 61 cows. Hopefully, this number will increase. We urge the public to be inspired to offer sacrifices at Istiqlal.” He added that submissions from the public will remain open until Wednesday evening.
Of the 61 cows, two were donated by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, both weighing over one tonne and of the Limousin breed. Another donation came from former President Megawati Soekarnoputri. Other contributors included the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ministry of Public Works, PT Telkom, BSI, Jakarta Cathedral, the Minister of State, National Police Chief, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, and Mrs. Megawati.
Mas’ud noted that Megawati frequently donates sacrificial cows to Istiqlal. The slaughter of all animals will take place on Thursday (28 May 2026) from 7:00 AM WIB, as the mosque will focus on Eid prayers the previous day. “It would take up too much time if done immediately, so we have scheduled it for the following day,” he explained.
Previously, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar stated that the distribution of sacrificial animals at Masjid Istiqlal does not use a voucher system.
