Jakarta - Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has stated that the government respects the legal process in response to a proposal for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to take over the handling of the case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah. Prasetyo conveyed this after a working meeting at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday. “The important thing, in my opinion, is that we all, once again as I have repeatedly said, respect the entire legal process,” he said. He also reiterated President Prabowo Subianto’s message reminding all state apparatus to avoid corrupt practices. “The President, as head of state and head of government, has repeatedly reminded us all, especially the government ranks, to improve ourselves and eliminate such practices. That is the spirit,” he said. KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto previously stated it was too early to discuss taking over the case. “I think it is too early because it is still being processed at the Attorney General’s Office,” Setyo said when met at the DPR building, Jakarta, on Tuesday. He explained that the handling of the case at the Attorney General’s Office is still in its early stages, including the examination of evidence and documents. Therefore, the KPK is allowing the legal process to proceed first. “The process is still in its early stages. There is still a lot of coordination that needs to be done, including the examination of evidence and documents. So, let the process run its course first,” he said. The proposal for the KPK to take over the case was previously put forward by Mahfud MD via a broadcast on his personal YouTube channel uploaded on Sunday. Responding to the proposal, Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, said the KPK has the authority to take over case handling. However, the anti-corruption body has currently been asked to supervise the handling process. “Go ahead, because the KPK does have the authority. However, we have conveyed that this case is being directly supervised by the KPK,” he said during a press conference on Monday.
