Issuing Presidential Regulation on Layoff Task Force, Prabowo: We Protect Our Brothers

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has stated that he has issued a Presidential Regulation regarding the Task Force for Mitigating Layoffs and Worker Welfare. Prabowo conveyed this information during a speech at the International Labour Day commemoration at Monas, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026). “Brothers and sisters, I have issued Presidential Decree Number 10 of 2026 on the establishment of the Task Force for Mitigating Layoffs and Worker Welfare,” said Prabowo. He stated that the state will take over the burden of companies that declare they cannot sustain operations and thus carry out layoffs. “Do not worry, we will defend the interests of workers. Those threatened with layoffs, we will defend and protect you, brothers and sisters,” Prabowo remarked. While many countries are panicking due to the impact of the war in West Asia (Middle East), Indonesia is experiencing a food surplus. He also mentioned that the stock of fuel oil (BBM) is sufficient. In fact, in the coming years, Indonesia could achieve energy self-sufficiency. “We are self-sufficient in food. Our food is secure. Our BBM is still secure,” Prabowo said. Prabowo received reports that workers must spend 30 percent of their salary to pay for rented accommodation. Regarding this housing need, the government will build houses near industrial areas at prices affordable for the working class. “We have already built quite a few this year. We have reached 350,000 houses. But our target is at least 1 million houses, which we will start this year as well,” Prabowo stated.
