Israeli settlers attempt to burn mosque in Nablus

Nablus (ANTARA) - A number of Israeli settlers attempted to burn a mosque in the town of Beita, northwest of Nablus, in the early hours of Tuesday.

Various local sources reported that the settlers set fire to a room near the Nur al-Din Zanki Mosque after failing to break down the mosque’s doors. The attackers also defaced the location with racist slogans.

The Palestinian Ministry of Waqf and Religious Affairs has strongly condemned the criminal attack, describing the malicious act targeting the mosque and place of worship as a dangerous and systematic escalation intended to provoke Muslims and violate the sanctity of religious sites protected under international law.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Nasser al-Salman, the Director General of Nablus Waqf, stated that the attempt to burn the mosque and the racist graffiti reflect the ongoing incitement against Palestinian holy sites. He emphasised that the mosque will remain vibrant through the presence of worshippers and their message of faith.

According to him, these heinous attacks will not weaken the bond between the Palestinian people, their homeland, and their holy sites. The Ministry has urged international organisations and human rights organisations to fulfil their responsibilities in protecting places of worship and to halt the repeated attacks by Zionist settlers against villages and towns in Palestine.
