Israeli Media: Tel Aviv Frustrated as US Bows to Iranian Demands
Israeli media have reported mounting frustration among the political leadership in Tel Aviv following the announcement of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran to end the war. Some officials, as reported by Al Mayadeen on Tuesday, have described a crisis with Washington and accused the US of capitulating to Iranian demands.
According to a report by i24NEWS, a particularly embarrassing concern for Israel is the inclusion of Lebanon in the MoU. An Israeli official said the Lebanon issue has triggered “very high tensions” between Tel Aviv and Washington, with disagreements between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump spilling into the public domain.
The i24NEWS report noted that while Israel’s political elite insist the country will not withdraw from southern Lebanon at this stage, significant questions remain regarding the future freedom of Israeli military aggression. One source expressed hope that the US-Iran agreement would collapse, stating, “Like the Obama deal, this is not the end of the road. Iran will not comply, and future operations to eliminate the nuclear project and strike their missiles are only a matter of time.”
Meanwhile, the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth sharply criticised the way Washington conducted the negotiations with Tehran. It argued that while coordination with the US remains important, Israel’s growing dependence on Washington is “dangerous and irresponsible”. The newspaper reported that, given what it described as the US administration’s reckless management of the negotiations, Israel has returned to a reality where its freedom of aggressive action is more limited and its capabilities have been weakened, especially due to the deteriorating relationship between Trump and Netanyahu.
