Israeli Intelligence Passes on 'Specific' Iranian Plot to Assassinate Trump
Israel provided the United States with intelligence this week about a new and ‘specific’ Iranian plan to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to US media reports on Thursday (9/7) local time. The development comes amid escalating attacks between the US and Iran, heightening fears of a return to all-out war.
CNN reported that Washington has been monitoring a series of intelligence reports about possible plots to kill Trump, but the warning from Israel was new and concerned a specific plan. The report cited an anonymous source familiar with the matter, as relayed by the AFP news agency on Friday (10/7/2026).
Another US media outlet, the Wall Street Journal, also quoted an anonymous source reporting that the intelligence information described the plot as ‘new’. Tehran has for years vowed to retaliate against Trump for ordering the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, in January 2020.
Trump has acknowledged that he is the target of threats from Iran. In his latest remarks, Trump said he was aware that his name was on Tehran’s target list. ‘They want to take out the US leader — me. I’m on every list. I saw this morning that I’m on every list of theirs. And so far I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but maybe that luck won’t hold out,’ Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he flew back from the NATO summit in Turkey on Wednesday.
The statement further highlighted growing concerns over Trump’s security. He has previously been the target of assassination attempts, including a serious incident in 2024 when he was shot while attending a campaign event. A bullet grazed his ear before security personnel evacuated him.
