Israeli Drone Strikes Cafe in Gaza, Killing Six Including a Child

An Israeli drone strike hit a crowded cafe in the port area of Gaza City in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday (18/8) local time. At least six Palestinians, including a child, were killed in Israel’s latest air attack.

Twelve other people were injured in the strike.

According to medical sources and eyewitnesses in Gaza, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Wednesday (19/8/2026), the dead and seriously wounded were taken to the nearest hospital immediately after the attack.

Eyewitnesses said the latest Israeli attack involved not only a number of drones but also two missiles.

The Israeli military, in a statement, claimed that its strike targeted Hamas commanders operating in the Al-Shati area, west of Gaza City.

Tel Aviv also accused Hamas of planning an attack against Israeli military forces.

A report by Israeli Army Radio, citing local security sources, claimed the strike targeted four Hamas commanders who were gathered at the cafe.

The report also said the targets included a Hamas ‘company commander’ and three ‘faction commanders’.

Hamas has so far not issued a statement responding to the Israeli claims.

The drone strike is Israel’s latest violation of the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in October last year.

According to data from the Gaza Ministry of Health, repeated Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement have killed at least 1,266 Palestinians and wounded 4,200 others.

Overall, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 174,000 others wounded since Israel launched its war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, following Hamas’s surprise attack.
