Israeli Attacks Kill Eight in Gaza, Including Mother and Child, Amid Fragile Ceasefire
At least eight people, including a mother and her young daughter, were killed in a wave of Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Monday, local medical sources reported, even as a ceasefire has been in effect since October last year. Dozens more were wounded in the strikes.
A woman and her daughter were killed when an Israeli air strike hit tents housing displaced families in Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. Witnesses reported that the attack caused severe damage to the tents and belongings of the displaced people. Shortly before, a separate Israeli drone strike targeted a tent on the beach in Al-Mawasi, killing two Palestinians and wounding 27 others. Medical sources said the injured, who sustained light to moderate wounds, were transferred to Nasser Medical Complex, the Kuwait Field Hospital, and Al-Mawasi Field Hospital in Khan Younis.
In eastern Khan Younis, another Palestinian was killed and a young girl injured after Israeli forces opened fire on a crowd of civilians near the Bani Suheila roundabout. In the central Gaza Strip, three Palestinians, including a child, were killed and several others wounded in a drone strike that targeted a group of civilians on Al-Baraka Street in Deir al-Balah. In northern Gaza, a young man and a woman suffered moderate injuries from Israeli artillery shelling in the Al-Salatin area of Beit Lahia.
In further developments, the Israeli military demolished buildings and facilities in northeastern Khan Younis, with residents reporting a series of powerful explosions amid heavy fire from Israeli military vehicles. Local sources and eyewitnesses also reported that Israeli military vehicles advanced into the Salah al-Din Road area in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, where troops opened fire and launched artillery attacks.
