Israeli Attack Targets Girls-Only School, 40 Killed

At least 40 people, including students, were killed and 48 others injured after an Israeli attack targeted a girls-only primary school in the city of Minab, Hormozgan Province, southern Iran, Iranian media reported on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

According to a provincial official cited by Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, the school came under attack on Saturday morning. Further details regarding the assault have not yet been obtained.

The United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on Saturday in the early hours of the morning, stating that the action was intended to eliminate the “threat” posed by the Iranian “regime”.

Separate video statements were released by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, which signalled support for efforts at regime change in Tehran.

Iran described the attack as a violation of sovereignty and vowed to respond, announcing plans to launch a retaliatory strike.

This development occurred as Oman mediated negotiations between Washington and Tehran regarding Iran’s nuclear programme, with the latest round of talks held in Geneva on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
