JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Iran, Rolliansyah “Roy” Soemirat, has confirmed that no Indonesian citizens were harmed in Israeli missile strikes against Tehran, Iran.

The assurance came as escalating tensions between Iran and Israel-United States intensified.

“As of 2:30 p.m. Iran time, all contact points we have established with Indonesian citizens across various Iranian cities have reported that they have not experienced or felt any direct threat,” said Soemirat in a voice message on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

Soemirat noted that approximately 329 Indonesian citizens are currently residing in the Tehran area.

He urged all Indonesian nationals to remain calm but vigilant, taking necessary precautions to ensure their own safety and that of their families.

“Steps will be taken to secure yourselves and your families,” he added.

The Indonesian embassy in Tehran continues to assess security conditions and is coordinating with Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry in Jakarta, including deliberations over whether evacuation measures may be required in the near term.

“Further updates will be provided regularly through the Foreign Ministry, specifically through the Foreign Ministry spokesperson,” Soemirat stated.

According to The Guardian, Israel closed its airspace as a precautionary measure against potential Iranian retaliation involving drones and missiles.

An Israeli military spokesperson described the assault as a preemptive strike designed to eliminate threats to the nation.

The Associated Press reported that the attack appeared to occur near the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

It remains unclear whether the 86-year-old Khamenei was present in his office during the strike.

He has not been seen publicly for several days amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States.

Iran has also launched retaliatory strikes against Israel and several American entities in the Middle East, including airstrikes on multiple airbases in the region, including those in Bahrain.
