Weapons and ammunition from Israeli military warehouses have reportedly been stolen on a large scale during the war in the Gaza Strip. These lethal weapons, including LAW anti-tank rockets, are now confirmed to have fallen into the hands of criminal organisations and the mafia.

Quoting Anadolu Agency on Friday (18/09/2026), Israel’s public broadcaster, KAN, reported on Thursday that the military likely does not know the exact total number of weapons and ammunition stolen that are now circulating freely outside of their control. During this week alone, two horrific incidents involving the use of LAW rockets were recorded in the Arab towns of Sajur and Jaljulia.

The nature of these recent incidents, alongside the plummeting price of weapons on the black market, serves as a strong indicator that these thefts are occurring on a massive scale. These breaches are suspected to have occurred after emergency unit warehouses were opened extensively during the ongoing conflict.

Regrettably, the missing ammunition can easily be disguised and recorded as ammunition used in combat, making it extremely difficult to determine the true quantity stolen.

The KAN report also highlighted a sharp surge in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and military-grade weaponry by criminals. “The number of criminal incidents involving hand grenades rose from 7ly in 2023 to 988 in 2024, which means almost three incidents per day,” it explained.

This horror was realised this week when a hand grenade was dropped from a drone in the Nazareth area. An investigation by the Israeli police’s Lahav 433 unit also uncovered facts that several companies in the Bedouin community have purchased hundreds of large-scale cargo drones using fraudulent invoices.

“The unmanned aerial vehicles have not yet been found, and authorities do not know where they are being used.”

Recognising the magnitude of this national security threat, the Israeli police, army, Shin Bet, and broader security agencies are now evaluating the scale of the threat posed by this drone series and developing various counter-strategies. Security authorities believe that this criminal network has specific motives behind the theft of such advanced equipment.

“Some of them may be used in smuggling operations,” the report concluded.
