Israel Unhappy with US-Iran Peace Deal

Israel immediately responded harshly to the peace agreement between the United States (US) and Iran announced by President Donald Trump. Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, asserted that his country is not bound by the agreement and said the deal does not guarantee Israel’s security.

“Trump’s deal does not bind us. We are not a party to this agreement. This agreement does not guarantee our security,” Ben Gvir said on his Telegram channel, as reported by AFP news agency on Monday (15/6/2026). This was the first reaction from an Israeli official to the announcement of the deal.

Ben Gvir also stressed that Israel must not ease pressure on Hezbollah, despite the peace deal being announced.

“We must not be satisfied with anything less than the dissolution of Hezbollah. We must not retreat even an inch from the territory that has been captured and cleared of terrorist infrastructure by our soldiers,” he said.

The peace agreement between the US and Iran was previously announced by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday (15/6). He said both parties agreed to halt fighting “immediately and permanently” on all conflict fronts, including Lebanon.

US President Donald Trump later confirmed the deal via his social media platform Truth Social. He also mentioned that the Strait of Hormuz had been reopened and the US naval blockade lifted.

“The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all parties!” Trump said.

Trump also hinted at the reopening of shipping lanes and energy distribution in the region.

“Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

According to Shehbaz Sharif, the official signing ceremony for the US-Iran peace deal will be held on 19 June in Geneva, Switzerland.
