The United States (US) and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire. The agreement has been responded to by the Office of the Israeli Prime Minister (PM), Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel has expressed support for US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend bombings against Iran during the ceasefire. Trump’s decision is part of the ceasefire agreement if Tehran reopens the Strait of Hormuz.

“Israel supports President Trump’s decision to suspend attacks for two weeks on the condition that Iran immediately opens the strait and stops all attacks against the US, Israel, and countries in the region,” stated Netanyahu’s office, as reported by AFP and quoted from detikNews on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

“Israel also supports US efforts to ensure that Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile, and terrorist threat to America, Israel, and Iran’s neighbouring Arab countries, and the world,” the statement added.

The statement was released four hours after Trump announced the two-week ceasefire with Iran via social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday (7/4) evening US time.

“The United States has informed Israel that they are committed to achieving these goals, which are shared by the US, Israel, and Israel’s regional allies, in upcoming negotiations,” stated the Israeli PM’s office.

However, Netanyahu’s office emphasised that the two-week ceasefire does not cover Lebanon, which is currently the base of the Hezbollah group, even though Pakistan, as the ceasefire mediator, stated otherwise.

“The two-week ceasefire does not cover Lebanon,” the statement firmly stated.

Previously, Pakistani Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif, acting as mediator in the US-Iran conflict, stated that the ceasefire covers “wherever, including Lebanon”.
