United States Vice President JD Vance on Thursday (19/6/2026) launched a sharp criticism against several members of the Israeli government who attacked the memorandum of understanding reached with Iran. He even stressed that President Donald Trump is currently the only president who still sympathises with Israel. Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv, the daily Yedioth Ahronoth quoted Israeli sources familiar with the developments, stating that Israeli political circles are in a state of shock following the American Vice President’s statements. During a press conference in Washington, Vance said that if he were in the position of those Israeli officials, he would not go so far as to attack the only strong ally they have left in the entire world. He reminded them that two-thirds of the weaponry that has protected Israel over the past several months was produced and financed by the United States. ‘Our message to Israel and all parties is that we want this peace process to proceed for their benefit,’ Vance stated, as quoted by Aljazeera on Friday (19/6/2026). He also criticised Israel’s attacks on Lebanon, which, according to him, often occur whenever there is progress towards reaching an agreement. Vance highlighted the number of victims with no connection to Hezbollah resulting from the strikes in Beirut. According to him, Israel certainly has the right to defend itself, but at the same time must respect the ongoing peace process.
