Israel Stunned by Harsh US Stance Unprecedented in Bilateral History, VP Vance Issues Sharp Criticism

WASHINGTON — United States Vice President JD Vance, on Thursday (1s June 2026), launched harsh criticism against several members of the Israeli government who have attacked a memorandum of understanding reached with Iran.

He further asserted that President Donald Trump is currently the only president who remains sympathetic to Israel.

Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv, the daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, quoting Israeli sources aware of the developments, noted that the Israeli political establishment is in a state of shock following the US Vice President’s statements.

During a press conference in Washington, Vance stated that if he were in the position of those Israeli officials, he would not attack the only strong ally they have left in the world.

He reminded them that two-thirds of the weaponry protecting Israel over recent months was produced and funded by the United States.

“Our message to Israel and all parties is that we want this peace process to proceed in their best interests,” Vance said, as reported by Al Jazeera on Friday (20 June 2026).

He also criticised Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which, according to him, frequently occur whenever progress is made towards reaching an agreement.

Vance pointed to the high number of casualties in Beirut who have no connection to Hezbollah.

He noted that while Israel has the right to defend itself, it must simultaneously respect the ongoing peace process.
